Welcome back to the Proje’ blog! This week, it’s time to talk about microfiber. Now, we use microfiber in car detailing because as a blend of polyester and polyamides, it’s synthetic. This means that it’s been made for a specific purpose; in this case, to be super-thin. The “micro” in microfiber means that each thread has a diameter of no more than ten micrometers. To put that into perspective, it would take at least five microfiber threads put together to match the thickness of a single human hair!

But because microfiber is synthetic, it can also be designed to do specific tasks. You can make the fibers thicker, rougher or smoother during the design process. At Proje’, for example, our microfiber is designed specifically to work on the surfaces of your car. That means no scratching, no streaks and no tiny bits of dirt left on your vehicle. But it’s not all about the job; our towels look and feel great, and they are extremely durable. We believe this adds to the enjoyment factor – nobody wants to be seen cleaning their car with an old rag!

What’s the big deal about microfiber?

Microfiber is made from polyester, which is made up of a mix of synthetic and natural polymers; some of these are taken from plant cuticles. To be classed as microfiber, a strand must be five times thinner than silk, or fifty times thinner than a human hair! Microfiber is super-absorbent and hydrogen bonding in production means that they take up oil extremely well, making them an ideal technology in car detailing. The ultra-fine fibers leave no particles behind and they’re even better at removing bacteria than a regular cloth or towel, so you’ll see microfiber used in commercial cleaning across the world – not just cars. They’re also extremely durable, so you can put in that extra bit of effort without your towel breaking down, but the ultra-thin strands won’t scratch your paintwork.

But of course, different towels do different jobs. It’s not one size fits all! So, we’ve put together a handy rundown of the microfiber towels we have available at Proje’ – and what jobs they’re designed for.

Black Mamba 16 x 16 Wheel and Trim Towel

After you’ve cleaned your wheels, you need to make sure that the area is thoroughly dry after rinsing. This is to make sure water stains don’t appear. The Black Mamba Wheel and Trim Towel is extra-soft and 380GSM, meaning that you can give your wheels a final buff as you dry everything, and the microfibers can get in to all the little crevices, ensuring that every last part is dry. Our towels are extra-durable, so you can put a little effort in without worrying that the towel will start to break down. We’ve chosen black to match the tires – you’d have an unsightly looking towel pretty quickly if it was white!

Bluepro and RedPro 16 x 16 Edgeless Towels and WhitePro 16 x 16 Microfiber Towel

The BluePro and RedPro 16 x 16 Edgeless Towels are a direct import from South Korea to Proje' HQ. Rated at a premium 480 GSM, these are the softest towel that Proje' offer. They are ideal for wax and sealant residue removal, waterless washing and even traditional drying and buffing methods. The high GSM rating ensures that you will never introduce swirls or scratches to the paintwork when used correctly.

Use these towels inside and out, after traditional cleaning or waxing. They’re multi-use, super soft and they look great too! The plushness of these towels ensures that you will never introduce swirls or scratches to the exterior or interior surfaces of your vehicle when used correctly.

White Intensive 2-Sided Interior Towel

The White Intensive 2-Sided Interior Towel is specifically designed for Proje's Intensive Process – those are the detailing processes specifically for the inside of your vehicle. One side of the towel is constructed with terry weave material and the other side a soft microfiber, meaning that you can change up the amount of friction depending on the softness of your interior surface. It’s the perfect combination for light duty cleaning, wiping and protection application.

A Terry Weave towel is made using a strand weave that is designed to be absorbent. But one of the best things about this towel is its dual purpose. When you’ve absorbed the bulk of the liquid using the Terry Weave side, simply flip it over and you’ll find a soft microfiber side for a last wipe away of any remaining dust. This towel will not only leave your interior dry, but beautifully soft too.

Big Giant Drying 25 x 36 Towel

This is the ultimate drying towel. A huge edgeless 25" by 36", it can hold up to 7 times its weight in water. Rated at a premium 480 GSM, making it the softest towel that Proje' offers, the high GSM rating ensures that you will never introduce swirls or scratches to the paintwork when used correctly. Fold it into many sides or use it wide open - the choice is yours. Either way it's the perfect size for any car. The size of this towel makes it perfect for after washing your car, because you can dry the entire surface of the vehicle in one go.

Diamond Window Towel

Our specially designed weave towel makes the process of cleaning glass and mirrors smooth, quick and easy. Use the Diamond Window Towel to ensure that there are no streaks or swirls when you wipe your glass, so you don’t have to spend hours going over and over your work – it’s infuriating, but you can avoid it by purchasing this towel.
