Welcome back to the Proje’ blog! Last week, we took an in-depth look at our SiO2 Quick Coat, and how it’s super effective at maintaining the quality of a ceramic coat over the course of a year – and more.
This week, it’s time to look at how you get to this point – applying the quick coat. To many amateur detailers, ceramic coating can seem like something they have to get a professional garage involved with, but this couldn’t be further than the truth. At Proje’, we want to send the message that no aspect of detailing needs to be too taxing for you, with a little care and attention, and the right product. In fact, it can be really fun! Let’s take a look at the three stages you go through to get a fantastic-looking, well-protected vehicle with incredible, shiny bodywork.
Step 1 – Wash, wash, wash!
The first step in this process is similar to the first step in a lot of our processes – wash! Having a visibly clean car has so many benefits when you come to apply any waxes, sealants and coatings. The main one, though, is that it ensures that you aren’t sealing any textured dirt in, causing problems down the line. So, get hold of a bottle of our Vital Car Wash Soap, get reading up about the two-bucket wash method and get lathered!
Step 2 – Prep Spray
Once your bodywork is clean and dry, it’s time to prep. Proje’ Prep Spray is the perfect way to prepare your paintwork for a high-quality ceramic coating. It’s safe to use on all forms of paintwork and other surfaces, evaporates quickly and helps to highlight minor defects and scratches to make your ceramic coating more effective afterwards.Often, micro-abrasions and tiny scratches can go unnoticed on dulled paitn surfaces. This means that when you come to apply a ceramic coating, you end up with a slightly uneven finish which can be exaggerated by both light and water beading. Our Prep Spray shows up these defects, allowing you to pay closer attention to your buffing after you’ve laid on the ceramic coating. That’s why it’s the best prep spray out there!
Better yet; using it is the simplest thing you could imagine: simply spray directly on to the surface of your vehicle – be as liberal as you like; the formula is completely harmless to all surfaces. You’ll see the solution evaporate before your very eyes, but after a few seconds, you can wipe the surface of your paintwork with a clean microfiber towel to make sure that it’s completely dry before applying your ceramic coating.
Step 3 – Ceramic Coating
So, we’re now ready to apply the ceramic coating. Nervous? Well, you needn’t be! It’s really not tricky at all! Our 9H Spray Ceramic Coating is an effective, easy-to-use ceramic spray that provides incredible protection to your paintwork for a year per application. It’s extremely durable, with strong hydrophobic properties, and effective at filling in light scratches to ensure a more resistant, smoother surface that you can really show off. We’ve put in the hard work to make sure this is the best ceramic coating for paintwork out there.
Paintwork is naturally breathable in that it’s made up of tiny pores. This is important for good quality paint, but it also creates a problem in that dirt can infiltrate these pores and be hard to remove. Our 9H Spray doesn’t only form a protective layer over your paintwork; it blends in with these pores to create a semi-permanent, ultra-durable bond that can’t be penetrated by dirt and contaminants. After applying, you get a year’s protection and that classic shine to go with it.
To use it, first spray the 9H Spray Ceramic Coating on to a blue Applicator Pad. Don’t worry too much about how much you spray – the key is to then apply the coating evenly, reapplying the spray to the pad when necessary. Each time you apply the coating to a section, leave it to cure for one minute. This is the coating attaching itself to the body of your vehicle. Then, get a clean microfiber towel and give the bodywork a really good buff. Remember to look out for those scratches and scrapes we highlighted with the Prep Spray, and give these a really good extra buff to help the ceramic coating fill the holes and make your car’s surface super smooth again.
And if you want a really hot tip, get your car inside for 24 hours after the coat. You don’t have to – but this guarantees 100% perfection because the paintwork won’t be exposed to the elements as the ceramic sets in. Don’t have a garage? Try a soft car cover instead.
Step 4 –SiO2
So, you’ve added ceramic and now, a few months down the line, you want to keep it touched up and maintained. The good news is that this doesn’t mean another full coat – just a touch up that takes minutes with our SiO2 Quick Coat. Remember, SiO2 is a compound that is used as a high-quality, durable coating on car paintwork. It uses its chemical make-up to bond with your paintwork, sealing it from contaminants and creating a hard, protective layer that won’t break down and is much easier to clean than direct paint. And of course it’s hydrophobic, so everything just slides right off, making it easier to clean and getting that classic water beading that’s so desirable.
Our spray has a neutral PH, is completely safe to use on all surfaces – not just your car’s paintwork – and is actually environmentally efficient, as our blend of cleaning and sealing means you don’t need to use lots of water to clean your car any more. Just spray and wipe – it’s this and two microfiber towels from here on in!All you need to do is spray directly on to the surface you are working on, then really rub that mixture in with one folded microfiber towel. This is your cleaning phase.
Now, it’s all about moving quickly. Before the mixture dries, get a second towel and buff everything that’s left until it dries. This is your shining and protecting phase. You’ll find it works quickly and easily – no smears, no smudges and no stains – just a perfect, clean shine.
Work over a small area of the vehicle at once, then repeat the process until the desired surface has been completely covered. Now, take a break and bask in the glory of that shine! That’s what the best SiO2 spray should do – and you won’t be disappointed!
Folks, that’s all you gotta do! None of it is technical, but the results are top-quality and the satisfaction is first rate. Now, there’s a set of processes you can really enjoy!
