Welcome back to the Proje’ blog! A bit of a departure from the norm today, because we’re going to be focusing on you. Not the car, or not entirely anyway, but you. At Proje’, our motto is “Enjoy the Process”, and we truly believe that maintaining your vehicle is scarcely worth it if you aren’t enjoying it. Cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore; it can be a relaxing, stress-relieving process that leaves you feeling happy, healthy and rewarded. So today, we’re going to look at the benefits of keeping your car clean from your perspective and point you towards some of our products that you can use to do it.
If you read our most recent blog entry, you’ll know that there are a great many reasons to keep your car clean. It just isn’t worth the long-term damage you’ll do to your vehicle by neglecting such a simple task. But you can read more about that on the other post; today is about you.
Have you ever walked into your garage, or out on to the street, and felt stressed out by the way your car looks? Or have you opened your door and been greeted by empty coffee cups and water bottles? Allowing your car to become dirty, either inside or out, causes stress. Your car is an extension of your home, your office and yourself. You wouldn’t be happy if there were finger marks on the walls, or coffee mugs on your desk at work. You would be very stressed out if your work or kitchen surfaces were dirty or dusty. The same is true of your car. Keep it tidy, keep it clean and you’ll lower your stress levels. Not to mention that getting in to a routine can be very therapeutic. Think of washing and tidying your car as a holistic ritual – in our previous blog we mentioned that this could be anywhere from once a week to once a month depending on where and how you live – and watch those stress levels reduce.
It may not be intense, but it is exercise nonetheless. Giving your car a good scrub, and the seeing the satisfaction of a really great lather, will raise your heart rate by several beats. It won’t get you near your maximum physical capabilities (or maybe it will – it depends on you), but it will get you above 90bpm, which is in the fat-burning heart rate range. If you spend 45-60 minutes inside and out, you’ll be burning several hundred calories, and you’ll get that great post-exercise feeling. Of course, there’s also the tangible result of having a great-looking, clean car. That’s got to be worth it, right?
There’s another side to having a dirty car either inside or out – it can be embarrassing. Now we’re obviously not talking about the odd blemish or bit of dirt, but a dirty car is eye-catching for all the wrong reasons. For the same reason that you give your house a quick tidy before people visit, so you will naturally feel better if you do the same with your car.
The opposite is true as well. If your car is gleaming, you will feel really good about it. We’re not saying that it has to look like it’s out of a Hollywood movie every second of every day, but a clean, shiny car will reflect the light in a really pleasing way. It’ll make you feel good, and will change people’s opinions of you too. You wouldn’t feel good about taking a dirty car to a business meeting, because you know that people judge things like cars as extensions of their owners. So make a good impression – it’ll improve your self-esteem no end.
Safety is even more important to your overall health than staying physically active. If you let your windscreens, windows or lights gather dirt, you’re either affecting your vision or the tools on your car that make it visible to others. Those little things – a blurred view because of some smeared dirt or grease on your windscreen, or a shade of darkness enveloping your headlight because of dust and dirt – can save lives at crucial moments. You can take it further with other aspects of cleaning and maintenance – particularly when you are talking about tires, for example – but for the moment let’s keep it to cleaning. It’s not a long job, and it can be a fun job, but it is vital for your safety as well as the upkeep of your vehicle.
Let’s not forget how therapeutic fresh air can be. In the digital age, it’s far too easy to look up from your screen and realise that you’ve been cooped up indoors for days, even weeks on end. It isn’t healthy, and can lead to the stress caused by “cabin fever”. Now, we’ve added a question mark to this subtitle because you need to be careful when washing your car outside. Remember that any auto detailing process should be done out of direct sunlight, so a garage is a great option. But you can have your garage door open while you do it, or wait until there’s a beautiful sunset on the horizon for you to admire while you work. Fresh air is good for you, so use cleaning your car as an excuse to get some!
Enjoying the Process
Here are a two tips to help you really enjoy cleaning your car!
Nothing is enjoyable if the tools you are using aren’t effective. Imagine finishing a job to discover that it hasn’t been done well! Our Vital Car Wash Soap is a real look-good, feel-good product. It produces great suds and contains a special pH-neutral blend, that reacts with water to produce suds and separate dirt from paintwork, so you get a great result after enjoying some great foam! Combine this with our Green Microfiber Wash Pad for the best results possible. Our wash pad is a premium, scratch-free, microfiber chenille wash mitt that is extremely gentle on paint, glass and plastic trim. Chenille comes from the French word for “caterpillar” and you’ll see that our shaggy microfiber strands are green and thick, just like caterpillars. The soft fibres are plaited together to make them extra thick and absorbent, so you can expect your mitt to hold an enormous amount of water. This is a big, shaggy mitt that you can get a real handful of it and wipe any flat or contoured surface. It’s incredibly satisfying using this mitt – it’s so plush, soft and absorbent that your enjoyment levels are really maxed out!
Get organised before you start. Get your 3.5 Gallon Plastic Pails ready, with all the equipment you need to hand, so you’re not running around looking for things all the time. Get your favourite tunes on, and pick a time of day when it’s peaceful, cool and there’s a nice sky to look at. Get lost in the process – and enjoy it!
