Welcome back to the Proje’ blog! This week we’re going to look at one of the most infuriating aspects of getting your car super-clean: those tiny swirl marks and fingerprint smudges that always seem to be on your windows and windshield after cleaning.

Have you ever been in the situation where you’ve sprayed and wiped, and the towel or mitt you’re using just puts streaks across your windshield? Or you get to the corner and it just won’t clean 100% perfectly? It can be extremely off-putting, as the perfection of the rest of the glass really draws the eye to those little bits that you just couldn’t get to. Well, we’ve experimented with products and methods, and we think we’ve found the perfect formula to get your glass absolutely pristine – and it won’t take you a long time or cause frustration!

Choosing the Correct Cleaner

First off, you’re going to need a glass cleaner that is ammonia-free and designed to be streak free. Unnecessary chemicals will inevitably be toxic and also add to the potential for streaks, neither of which are desirable. Not only is this bad for the environment, but chemical additives may damage your paintwork on contact, and let’s face it; it’s inevitable that there will be a little splashing as you clean right up to the edges of your glass. You also don’t want to be thinking about skin damage or product getting in your eyes.

At Proje’, we’ve ticked all the boxes. Our Genesis Glass Cleaner is an ammonia free, streak free formula that will deliver crystal clear glass every time. It’s safe on tinted windows, which makes it one of the most versatile cleaners out there. It will also remove fingerprints, smudges and anything else life may throw at your glass. Genesis Glass Cleaner breaks down dirt as soon as it touches the surface, leaving you free to smoothly wipe your glass clean. Also, because it’s ammonia-free and contains no airborne chemicals, it’s safe to use on the enclosed space of your auto interior as well as the exterior, meaning that you can clean both inside and out to get absolutely perfect windows, just like the ones you see on cars in the movies. The versatility of our glass cleaner means that you can use it on windows, windscreens, interior and exterior mirrors, the clear surface of your dashboard and your in-built display screen, so that the clean, smudge-free shine appears all over your vehicle. Where standard window cleaners will leave streaks and could damage your window tint, Genesis Glass Cleaner is truly universal, so you can use it with confidence.

Pairing it With the Right Towel

Now, a regular microfiber towel is great for paintwork and plastics etc. But the slightly longer fibers move as you wipe, which is what causes streaks. However, our specially-designed weave towel makes the process of cleaning glass and mirrors smooth, quick and easy. We call it the Diamond Window Towel. Use the Diamond Window Towel to ensure that there are no streaks or swirls when you wipe your glass, so you don’t have to spend hours going over and over your work – it’s infuriating, but you can avoid it by purchasing this towel.

When it comes to glass, it’s important to dry the surface as quickly as possible in order to avoid any swirls as the water comes off. This is a typical frustration of drivers and something we’ve spent a lot of time on perfecting. You’ll notice that our Diamond Window Towel has a slightly different texture to our other microfiber towels. This is because the weave of the microfibers is slightly different; the fibers trap the water and absorb it in to the towel. Despite this being smaller than our other towels, it is as effective because the focus here is drying sections of glass extremely quickly rather than focusing on sheer surface area.

How to Get the Best Results

Ok, so it’s time to get down to business.

Step 1

As with every product you ever use on your car, make sure you’re working out of direct sunlight so as to avoid any spotting. Spray Genesis Glass Cleaner directly on to the glass; two squirts per window should be enough to ensure complete coverage.

Step 2

Now, fold the Diamond Window Towel in half, and wipe in a back and forth direction across the glass, ensuring that you cover the surface all the way to the corners. Make sure that the glass is completely dry before moving on the next section – refold the Diamond Window Towel and repeat if necessary. Folding it over periodically will ensure that it stays as dry as possible when coming into contact with the glass.

Now, the best way to avoid any streaks, is to alternate the direction in which you wipe. For interior windows, wipe in a horizontal direction; for exterior windows, wipe in a vertical direction. This will ensure zero streaks and absolutely perfect coverage.

It’s really that easy. Here at Proje’, we tried this out on a standard hatchback with tinted rear mirrors and the entire process, inside and out, took us less than 10 minutes. Surely everyone can spend 10 minutes once a month to get glass as pristine as cars in the movies!
