Welcome back to the Proje’ blog! We spend a lot of time designing and developing top quality auto detailing products, and even more time using them, improving them and then writing about them, right here on our blog. But there a bunch of people out there who aren’t enthusiasts, who don’t see detailing as enjoyable or worthwhile and who don’t understand why folks like us spend money on it. Why do we detail? Let’s try and break it down into a few ideas.

The look

The first, most obvious reason to detail is that it makes your car look really good. You can’t get the same kind of shine to your paintwork with soapy water that you can with a product like Vital Car Wash Soap, or a high-quality “liquid wax” polymer like Rapid Quick Wax. You won’t get an interior that’s completely spotless and free from odors unless you get a specially targeted product like our Alpha Interior Cleaner. These products have been designed, using the latest in detailing technology, specifically to get the best possible results on the interior and exterior surfaces of a car.

There’s also the pride you can take in having a car that looks fabulous. Having a really dirty vehicle – inside or out – can really make you feel self-conscious. You don’t want to show it off, you don’t want to drive places – where’s the fun in that? Surely it’s much better to have a clean, shiny vehicle that feels great to spend time in? After all, if you’re anything like me, you spend as much time in your car as you do your house!

The money

The misnomer of the detailing industry is that it’s expensive, and therefore inaccessible. Nothing could be further from the truth. Detailing products aren’t just higher in quality than regular, non-auto specific products, but they are also far more efficient. Our Vital Car Wash Soap provides you with 8 full washes for under $10 – that’s less than $1.50 per wash. Our New Car Scent is also under $10 and lasts for several years! Even the more specialist products, like our Hybrid Wax Sealant, are fantastic value. The bottle price of $40 might put some people off, but this is a full polymer synthetic formula that bonds directly with painted surfaces, creating a strong barrier against water spots, road grime, fallout and industrial contaminants for up to 12 months. And you get several separate uses over it, so you’re looking at paying $40 once every few years and getting professional-grade protection to your paintwork in the process. Now, if that’s not value for money, I don’t know what is!

Your car needs looking after

If breaking down the costs isn’t enough, think about the long-lasting effects on your vehicle. Detailing products are carefully designed to clean and protect. Take our Redline Wheel Cleaner, for example. It’s extremely tough on the embedded debris and particles in your wheels that come from hot break dust, oil and road dirt. It breaks down the worst of the build-up in the toughest areas to reach – the undercarriage, the brake parts and the wheel wells. The active ingredients in the cleaner neutralize any acidic presence, allowing for a smooth wipe clean and an end to any danger of long-lasting damage. Soap and water won’t get rid of any of this, and you’ll end up spending a lot of money dealing with a more expensive problem down the line. The same is true of wax products; if you don’t wax, you’re exposing your paintwork to sun damage, embedded dust and debris and eventually scratching and oxidisation that will ultimately lead to bigger problems. You’re spending money to save money and protect your car in the process!

It’s good for your health

We’ve already written a full feature on why washing your car is good for your health – take a look! Aside from the exercise, auto detailing can be a great way to destress, get outside and raise your own self-esteem through taking pride in your work. If you get yourself into a routine, detailing can be really great for your physical and mental wellbeing.

It’s easy!

The other myth that the auto detailing industry has to deal with is the one that these products are difficult to use. Sometimes, they’re actually easier than using conventional products, as the chemical makeup means you can just spray directly on the paintwork, like with our Rapid Quick Wax. Or, with our Redline Wheel Cleaner, you just spray it on to the wheels and agitate it a bit. Then leave it and it changes color to tell you when it’s ready to be washed off! You don’t even need to think!

It’s addictive!

When all’s said and done, these kinds of detail in our everyday lives can be downright addictive! I find myself looking forward to cleaning the interior of my car so that I can have everything sparkling and finished off with that fresh leather scent. I love the way my car looks when it’s just been washed and waxed, and I’m not afraid to say so! It gives me a great sense of pride – and I’m sure it will do for you too!
